The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge’s Thanksgiving Day 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Mile Run has been a local tradition and a community favorite for over three decades. It is also our biggest fundraiser of the year!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

We have many opportunities for you to help with the Run and Food Drive including:

Hang posters
Decorate food drive bins
Assemble medals
Distribute bibs and t-shirts before race day
Set up / clean up
Blow up balloons

FOOD DRIVE

Drop-Bins from NASA Services will be located at CCLCF, local schools, and select businesses throughout the area starting at the beginning of November. Please bring your non-perishable canned or boxed goods throughout the month or to Olberz Park on the day of the race. Food donations will be given to Sue’s Garden in La Crescenta for distribution to local families in need.

If you would like a food drive collection bin at your place of business, please contact liz@cclcf.org.

BIB PICKUP

Bib and T-shirt pick up is available on Tuesday, November 26th from 9am – 7pm at the Community Center, located at 4469 Chevy Chase Drive in La Canada Flintridge. This is for those who still need to register AND for all registered participants to pick up their t-shirts and race bibs.

Avoid the lines on Thanksgiving morning! Make sure to pick up your bib before race day!

COSTUME CONTEST

Join us for our 1st Annual Thanksgiving Run Costume Contest! You do not have to be registered in either of the runs to compete.

Check in at the Costume Contest Booth between 7:45 am and 8:15 am to get your photo taken. Winners will be announce at 9:15 am.

KIDS MILE TRAINING

Kids 1 Mile 6-Week Training Program

October 19 – November 23 (Saturdays 9am-10am)

Ages: 12 & under

Location: CCLCF | Lower FIS Track

Price: FREE to all kids 12 & under that would like to train for the upcoming Thanksgiving Day Kid’s 1 Mile Run.

What to wear & bring: wear proper running attire (running shoes and comfortable clothes to move in), bring a refillable water bottle, bring a sweatshirt if necessary.

Program Details: This 6-week training program will get your kids ready for the Thanksgiving Day 1-mile run with fun, age-appropriate workouts including proper stretching and warm-ups. Each session will also include a nutrition tip of the day, highlighting how best to fuel your body before and after running. This FREE program is made possible by a generous grant from Kiwanis Club of La Cañada La Crescenta AM. Must be registered for the Kids Mile Run to participate. Maximum participants: 30

Instructor Bio: Katie Valdes is a Registered Dietitian specializing in sports nutrition as well as a lifelong runner having competed in cross country and track at the University of Southern California and still competes to this day. Katie works in collegiate athletics as a Sports Dietitian getting athletes ready to compete at the highest level. She also has a private practice where she works with athletes of all ages, from youth to master level. Before working in collegiate athletics, Katie owned WellMade Provisions which provided healthy lunches to school age children as well as pre-game meals for high school sports teams. Prior to becoming a registered dietitian, she was a high school teacher and x-cross country and track coach.
