Community Center Debuts New Volunteer Program with Chemo Kits
The Community Center of La Canada Flintridge (CCLCF) has partnered with Small Acts Big Change to create the Community Center Cares Program. Each quarter volunteers will be offered one or more opportunities to make a difference in the Crescenta-Canada community and beyond.
The first Community Cares event took place on Thursday, September 5th when over 50 volunteers gathered at CCLCF to assemble 120 Care Kits for patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments at Norris Cancer Institute. Each kit contains essential items to help ease the side effects of chemo and boost morale.
Volunteers knitted scarves, fingerless gloves, hats, and beanies to include in the packages. Other items donated were crocheted hearts, handmade get-well cards, handmade bookmarks, Sephora self-care sets, Sprouts gift cards, and puzzle books.
“There is so much love that went into creating these packages,” said Small Acts Big Change Founder, Carolyn Dundee. “A literal overabundance of goodness and love from those who gave their time to create these gifts and assemble the kits.”
